New Jersey Faulkner Act: Charter Studies aren’t always the way to do it.

More to come: commentary on the 1974 Bridgewater Charter Study Commission Report.

Think this is the way to do it, Hillsborough? Wrong! I have a copy of the August 5, 1974 report, that was sent to every household in Bridgewater.

The newspapers probably made that a front-page item, since little else was going on that week (except Watergate and the Nixon resignation.) Oh—and if it went out as a document the same month—here’s hoping that everyone was at home. After all, no one takes vacations in August . . .

Bridgewater went the Commission route, and the report basically became a sales document for one point of view.

The people on the Hillsborough Plantation who signed the petition have probably been given wayyyyy much more information about the Faulkner Act possibilities than the residents of Bridgewater were given in 1974 . . .
