Do I have to join the Japanese pension system? An update!

Democratic Party of Japan Manifesto (English)

It’s Item 18 on page 28 of the plan.

– A unified system to which every one subscribes

– A minimum pension of 70,000 yen. So probably similar to the American system where original contributions count for more.

– A “passbook” with a record of contributions. In the States, you get an annual notice.

So pension coverage (and pension payments) as a part of being here in Japan is coming. You can listen to the Japan Probe BBS pension-dodger crowd or whichever. But I’m telling you, paying in is going to be part of things for foreigners here, just like it is everywhere else in the modern world.

At Number 20, same file “integrate the Social Insurance Agency with the National Tax Agency” to create one government authority collecting both taxes and national pension contributions.

I hope it won`t happen soon. Good Luck! Next step, scrub fingerprinting and photographing foreign daddies and moms. at each entry to Japan. STOP separating families of legal residents here if you want them to follow new rules.
