Only 20% of English conversation teachers in Japan use English in the classroom.

I am sure you saw this one on Japan Today.

Yet more reason to institute team teaching. I did this in Japan with a wonderful corporate employee who has been doing a community service English project for the last 15 years, and it worked really well.

The more excuses that the bureaucracy and certain political figures give for why quality English instruction can’t be delivered in Japan, the more it really looks like the people who run Japan don’t want Japanese people speaking English . . .

[Update: I’m going to let this one just trail off, because the headline says it all. When only 20% of your teaching staff is really any good at what you’re trying to teach, that says something.]
