“One out of 10 seats on the (U.S.) federal bench is vacant.”

This clip is very interesting, and I’m surprised that it’s only had 105 hits. Various U.S. senators today spoke up about the fact that the Republican Party has been filibustering or otherwise delaying President Obama’s appointments to the federal bench.

I know that in the Southern District of New York–where I have pending business—there are six five vacant seats. Several of these were because district court judges went to senior status (and so are still around). Regardless, though, there is no excuse for there not to be the full complement. The situation impacts the judges, and also those who are relying on the court system.
