James at Japan Probe has some of the counter-opinion up. [No pun intended about “counter”.]
My bettin’ money is still on the idea that Fukushima represents a political message to the Japanese populace, that their lives are worth a bit less to the bureaucracy that runs Japan, than what they think. This was the point taken by many Ukranians after Chernobyl.
When you look at Japanese history over the last 100 years, it’s not too far-fetched, either. In one way or the other, the people are the sheep who have been led to the slaughter.
(Actually, more than 100 years, because the Russo-Japanese war is already 107 years . . . )
