US group Alliance for Justice says there aren’t enough federal judges.

This topic fits right in with my recent talk about the activity in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The Alliance for Justice, a non-profit interest group in Washington, put out a report that was featured on Rachel Maddow tonight. The report shows that the Republicans in the U.S. senate are purposely causing a crisis within the federal court system by blocking judicial nominations however and whenever possible.

As a result of this obstruction, many district courts are in an emergency situation. Still others have vacancies sufficient to slow down the normal functioning of the Judicial Branch. (New York’s Southern District, by the way, is down six judges currently.)

Nan Aron of the Alliance believes that this is a deliberate attempt by the Republicans to grab as many seats as it can for the possibility that Mitt Romney will be elected President of the United States. In short, it is more sore loserism out of the Republicans, plus their Southern-inspired undermining of the U.S. constitution.

The President gets a four-year term, and he gets the prerogative to nominate judges of his choice, which it is the Senate’s work to vote on. That is their work. That is their job.
