More health insurance reform in Japan

From a couple of days ago, in Japan Today.

Two key takeaways are that the LDP government is looking for senior citizens, especially well-off seniors, to pay more.    Right now, it sounds like they get a deal.

The proposal more relevant to the general gaijin community is that the government also wants to move administration of the public health insurance programs away from the local ward desk, and put it at the prefecture level.    While it looks like this would make it easier to dodge the health insurance, it’s probably a move meant to make it more likely that nonpayers are identified.

The year 2018 is the target.
