This actually happened earlier this year. All the legislation, which is what I read, refers to exchanges. But, sometime several months back, Health & Human Services decided that Marketplace was a more inclusive term, because Exchange didn’t have a good translation into Spanish.
I heard this at a Public Accountant CPE seminar last week by a very good presenter from the Willis actuarial firm, and, sure enough . . .
I think I’ve used Marketplace already, but I wanted to point the change out, since I see everything coming from HHS saying “Marketplace” and having that neat infinity-evoking brand symbol (an “H” for healthcare?) on it.
[Postnote: Marketplace just sounds so much more capitalist, since they’re all private companies offering insurance in it.]
